Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

At Gosnold, we know a successful recovery does not end with the completion of a treatment plan; we offer ongoing recovery support for our patients and their families.  We are committed to the community and provide family education, school-based counseling, medical care integration, and support prevention coalitions.

Partial Hospitalization Program

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an adult (18+) day treatment service that specializes in mental health and co-occurring (mental health and substance use disorder).  The program runs 5 days a week Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Patients receive individualized, focused and goal-oriented treatment to help facilitate stabilization of symptoms in a less restrictive, non-inpatient environment. Patients receive intensive group therapy including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychoeducation and expressive therapy. Additionally, patients will meet with a psychiatric prescriber for medication management and a case manager to create an individualized continuing care plan. Gosnold case managers work collaboratively with probation officers, the Department of Children and Families, primary care physicians, primary supports and outpatient providers to ensure successful continuity of care.

Our co-occurring partial hospitalization program is offered on site in Centerville, Stoughton and Plymouth in adherence with COVID safety protocols recommended by state and federal health officials.

PHP can also be accessed through our virtual telehealth platform anywhere in Massachusetts for patients deemed appropriate by our clinical staff.

On average, patients will attend PHP for approximately 2-4 weeks. The needs of each individual are different and a longer stay may be necessary for medication stabilization, acuity, symptoms or safety concerns.

PHP is appropriate for patients transitioning from inpatient or residential treatment to outpatient. Additionally, PHP is an appropriate alternative for patients presenting to the emergency room who do not demonstrate any danger to themselves or others, or for patients who would benefit from a structured treatment plan and environment. Upon arrival, a case manager will complete a clinical assessment to determine if a person presenting for treatment would benefit from a mental health treatment program, or a mental health and substance use (dual diagnosis) treatment program.

What Is Next After Treatment Is Completed?

A “step down” to a lower level of care is encouraged. Gosnold’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Intensive Outpatient Program – Substance Use Disorder (SUD IOP)  help patients transition back into daily life.
